"Future pain is to be avoided." (Patañjali, Yoga-sūtra, II. 16). An aphorism that is the programmatic manifesto of Yoga and urges us to overcome the suffering of the present and prepare the future to come. Because the future will surely come! and it will be the result of the choices made today, in the present. Choices, which should be suggested by the desire for improvement and good, by love; by enthusiastic ardour; by order, especially in one's thoughts, and by the truth of reality. Choices, which if inspired by these four great values of life, the fixed stars the sailor must rely on if he wants to reach the expected safe harbour. Part One of the treatise intends to analyse that intelligent instrument of "Therapy for the soul" which is Philosophical Therapy and uses the Philosophy of classical Yoga and the Cosmology and Psychology of the oldest, secular and ethical, Sāṃkhya Philosophy. The final five chapters are dedicated to the practice of Meditation. Part Two is addressed to "Body care", with the Schemes of 108 Lessons, the explanation of 147 āsanas, 37 integrative yogic techniques, and with 54 stimuli for reflection. A chapter is dedicated to the Breath-Prāṇāyāma and the Figured Collections of the āsanas help to plan the sessions. The Sapience that derives from it confirms that " The mind is nourished only by what cheers it up " (Saint Augustine, The Confessions, XIII. 27) and that Yoga is awareness, freedom, serenity, and immortality.
